Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Heavy Rainfall

for Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West and parts of Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.

Issued at 6:59 pm Friday, 24 January 2020.

Slow moving active thunderstorms are continuing over the northwest and central parts of Queensland.

Weather Situation

HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, North West, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Charleville, Emerald, Winton, Mount Isa, Georgetown, Blackwater, Moranbah, Hughenden and Richmond.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

Capricornia,Wide Bay and Burnett

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 10:00 pm.
