Cancellation Severe Thunderstorm Warning

for Arnhem and Carpentaria districts.

Issued at 6:57 pm Friday, 24 January 2020.

Thunderstorms have weakened across the Arnhem and western Carpentaria Districts.

Weather Situation
a tropical low remains slow moving over the northern Barkly district, south of Borroloola. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are occurring to the north of this low.
cancellation severe thunderstorm warning for the following areas:
Arnhem and Carpentaria
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Arnhem and western Carpentaria Districts.
The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.
Ngukurr received 47.6mm between 3:30pm and 4:30pm.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall remains current for eastern parts of the Carpentaria and Barkly districts.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
* stay away from fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live
* stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways
